PLEASE, FIT IN - Limited edition of 15 pieces made in collaboration with FLORIAN GENZKEN
A puzzle consists of individual pieces that have to perfectly fit together in order to form a greater picture. If one does not fit in, you can't force it to do so. Eventough the pieces slightly differ from each other, they all have the characteristic features of a puzzle piece, which has a great recognition value.
"You probably fancy another football team than your neighbour and it's okay to express that personal preference by putting up a flag in your garden, it's a degree of individuality that is welcome. Differing too obviously is not, it can even be dangerous. You will try to fit in".
FLORIAN GENZKEN is an multidisciplinary artist working with painting, photography and object. He studied in Munich, Vienna and is now based in Paris. Being trained as painter, his work deals with the interplay between image and sign as well as more conceptual question of image production itself.
CONCEPT
The architectural expression of this will to fit in is the frightening conformity of the houses. Impacted between two of them stands a perfectly trimmed boxwood. A solar panel is mounted to it (not fitting in), mimicing photosynthesis in a technical manner. The ensemble is completed by a garden pond and it's guarding garden gnomes, which are supposed to be quaint but might turn against you any moment. The garden as a miniature version of real life, a controllable one.
